KNOWhunger
WHAT HUNGER LOOKS LIKE.
Hunger in Ottawa is not unique to a specific group of people. Among the on average 43,000 people per month we help, there is a world of diversity. We have clients of every race, sex, part of the city, and age – including the 37 per cent of whom are children. Some of our clients work, while others don’t. Some live alone, others live with families. Some have homes, and some sleep in shelters. There is no “type” when it comes to hunger, and whether someone gets their food from a major shelter or a smaller food bank, it is our commitment to continue to help those in our community who are the most vulnerable.
The KNOWhunger Education Program aspires to educate the citizens of Ottawa about the issue of hunger in their community and give them the knowledge and tools necessary to take action. We believe that it takes more than food to fight hunger, so we are taking on the responsibility to not only reach out to the community for support, but also to educate, engage and empower the community on the issue of hunger.
