OTTAWA FOOD BANK

The Myles Family

Bethany Hope Centre

Being a young father, Blake had always worked to provide for his fiancé and daughter to the best of his ability. For the first 7 months of his daughter’s life everything was great financially and they lived like any other family would. Unfortunately, a wrist injury at work meant Blake would have to take some time off and go back to school. At first, Ontario Works provided enough money to just scrape by, but they still had to use their credit cards every month. Eventually these credit cards were maxed out and not being able to buy food started to become a reality.

Being a student at the Bethany Hope Centre, Blake knew of the food bank on Fridays and decided to try it, as it was his last hope in getting food between pay periods. The food bank was an amazing help and has helped him squeeze by in times of need without having to stress about where their next meal was coming from. As a result, Blake was able to stay in high school, graduate, and get accepted to college. Without the food bank at the Bethany Hope Centre Blake says he could not have achieved his goals and would not have been as successful as he is today.
