People who make a difference
VOLUNTEERS MAKE OUR MISSION POSSIBLE.
We are lucky at the Ottawa Food Bank to have a team of outstanding volunteers. These are the people who come in and donate their time and energy to ensure that we do everything we can to provide hungry people in the Ottawa Region with nutritious food. From all of us at the Ottawa Food Bank, THANK YOU for everything that you do, you truly are making a difference.
Here is what some of our volunteers have to say about their volunteer experience:
Faisal
I have been volunteering for the Ottawa Food Bank for almost a year, and chose to volunteer here because I enjoy being surrounded by staff and other volunteers that share my ideologies on community support; they believe that no one should ever have to struggle with hunger.
Since the Ottawa Food Bank supports 140 local agencies that help the hungry, I feel like I am volunteering for all those agencies at the same time. I know it’s hard for me to do anything when I’m hungry, so I can only imagine what others might go through on a daily basis.
I was talking to a friend of mine about volunteering here, and he told me when growing up he and his family often got food at the food bank. He looked at me and said, “Thank you for volunteering.”

I am a university student and have been volunteering with the Ottawa Food Bank since fall 2010. I volunteer with this organization because I know my efforts have far reaching effects. Volunteering with the Ottawa Food Bank allows me to assist people beyond one specific community food cupboard and allows me, if even in a small way, to provide support to many food assistance programs throughout the city.
I enjoy volunteering with the Ottawa Food Bank because of the people I work with. I always leave my volunteer shift with a smile on my face – it’s impossible not to! I also enjoy the variety of volunteer opportunities provided to me in terms of the different events such as the Sens Puck Drop, Food Aid and Capital Hoedown.
It is very heartwarming to see the warehouse with full cages of food after a recent event like the Thanks-for-Giving Food drive. It’s incredible to realize how many people will be helped by these donations and it reminds me of how generous people truly are.
