People who make a difference

VOLUNTEERS MAKE OUR MISSION POSSIBLE.

We are lucky at the Ottawa Food Bank to have a team of outstanding volunteers. These are the people who come in and donate their time and energy to ensure that we do everything we can to provide hungry people in the Ottawa Region with nutritious food. From all of us at the Ottawa Food Bank, THANK YOU for everything that you do, you truly are making a difference.

Here is what some of our volunteers have to say about their volunteer experience:

Robert Jolicoeur and Richard Wink

Both Robert and Richard have been volunteering with the Ottawa Food Bank for a little over a year, and enjoy volunteering together as a team. Together they are making an impact in our warehouse by sorting food, loading the trucks, and lending a hand with leading some of our larger volunteer groups.

Robert says he volunteers at the Ottawa Food Bank because he, “believe[s] in the cause that the Ottawa Food Bank is doing – helping to feed those in need, including the children with after-school and breakfast programs. It’s also a good Christian thing to do; give back to the community and help others out.”

Richard used to work at the Kawartha Food Share Depot, and naturally found his way to the Ottawa Food Bank because it does similar work. “I feel it’s important to make a contribution and to be useful now that I’m retired. It’s ridiculous that so many are going hungry in a country like Canada and I want to help out,” says Richard.

Both mention that they enjoy the work they do at the Ottawa Food Bank because it’s great to feel useful and to know that they are helping the community. They also have great admiration for the other volunteers and the Ottawa Food Bank staff. Robert goes on to say that he loves working with our Volunteer Coordinator, Jo-Anne. “She’s always helping out, very considerate, friendly, and happy!”
