We are lucky at the Ottawa Food Bank to have a team of outstanding volunteers. These are the people who come in and donate their time and energy to ensure that we do everything we can to provide hungry people in the Ottawa Region with nutritious food. Daniel Oickle

I have been volunteering for the Ottawa Food Bank for about 14 years. When I started volunteering, I helped out with the OC Transpo Food Drive every year, and then gradually started doing other events. Now I volunteer any chance I can.

The Ottawa Food Bank was always there for me when my family and I were in need. For that reason, I volunteer all I can as my way to repay them for what I’d been given.

When volunteering I love meeting other people and sharing stories. It was while talking to other volunteers many years ago that I was given a tip on a job, where I was able to find employment until I took ill and had to leave. I am no longer able to work, but I still love to volunteer.

The food bank is a great place to volunteer as it can be good physical work and a great chance to meet other people. It’s a great place where the staff are always there to assist in making your work safe and fun – I always leave with a smile knowing I’ve done my part to help others.
