Volunteering is not only a great help to us, it’s also incredibly rewarding for those who give their time. They know that by volunteering they’re helping fight hunger in their community. After all, when you see just how much food leaves our warehouse every day, it’s easy to see the difference that you’re making. There are many ways to donate time to the Ottawa Food Bank.

Sorting Food

One of the best ways that you can volunteer is through sorting food in our warehouse. Since we collect and distribute food to our 140 Member Agencies, we have to organize food based on what they require. That means a whole lot of sorting.

Due to the size of our sorting table, we’re only able to accommodate 15 individuals at a time. While we’d love to be able to have people drop by to volunteer, to make sure that we have the staff to facilitate you, we require that you make an appointment during our regular hours.

Regular Hours

Monday to Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., subject to availability.

Special Events

Another way that we collect food is by holding food drive events with a number of different partners across the city. But, as with everything we do, we need good people to help us reach our goals. If this interests you, sign up for our newsletter and we’ll let you know what events are coming up.

Truck Assistants

Looking to do something good and get a workout at the same time? Volunteer as one of our truck assistants. With all of our pickups around town, we can always use a good set of hands to help load our trucks.

Community Harvest Volunteers

Our Community Harvest Program also needs volunteers. Through partnerships with local farmers and our own land dedicated to growing carrots, we can provide hungry families with fresh produce. But we need help harvesting it. We need lots of volunteers to help with gleaning and we require 100 volunteers for our own carrot crop.
