On Saturday, April 12, neighbours across Ottawa showed their kindness and generosity as the Ottawa Food Bank held the Fill the Plates – Spring Food Drive.
Because of you, we raised 23,430 pounds of food and $3,790.85!
Multiple grocery chains from across the city came together in support of families struggling to afford enough to eat. In total, 31 grocery store locations enthusiastically participated in the event. We appreciate all store staff and managers for supporting our efforts to raise food and funds and are overjoyed by the dedication of stores who went above and beyond to create pre-made donation bags. Thank you for the care you have for our community.
To the 120 volunteers who donated their time on a Saturday – THANK YOU. Your role in representing the Ottawa Food Bank to the broader community is essential. We noticed and appreciate the care you put into greeting members of the public with a smile, to facilitating their donations and simply being present to inform the public about the food insecurity crisis in Ottawa.
Finally, our sincere thank you to our neighbours who came out to make a donation over the weekend. We recognize that times are tough for everyone – yet Ottawa continues to show up for their neighbours. We are grateful for your support, by prioritizing donations of our most needed items, it means that families can get healthy food when they need it most.
Thank you for doing your part in serving our community!

Unfortunately, the need continues – and we hope to count on your support – you can still donate online or drop off non-perishable food items at your nearest grocery store.
Our next signature food drive takes place before Thanksgiving weekend – but you’re welcome and encouraged to give throughout the year to support families with healthy and nutritious food!
